Section.
Newburyport's Office of
Emergency Management building has a Communications
Center/Radio Room equipped with radio's
capable of communicating with any public safety
organization within Essex County, Massachusetts.
Communications systems include:
UHF, VHF
and 800Mhz band radios (base/mobile and portables)
HAM Radio/
Amateur band radio’s (2 & 10 Meter)
HAM/Packet
Net to MEMA Regions and State EOC
Marine & 27Mhz Citizen
Band Communication
Newburyport Police/Fire paging system
60’ AME tower adjacent
to our building for antenna height

within the radio room communications center is:

Note: The City of
Newburyport’s
9-1-1 call system is handled directly by the
Newburyport Police Department.
Members of
Newburyport’s OEM are provided with pocket pagers for
Emergency notification when our EOC activates due to
natural or man made disasters.
 
Newburyport's OEM uses Motorola base radios for direct
communication with MEMA Framingham (Command and Control)
and Region 1 control office via the states VHF
(repeater) radio network.
Our primary radio is
the Motorola CDM1250 and back-up is Motorola MCS2000

With Station Seabrook (800Mhz system), Newburyport can
communicate with all other Emergency Operations Centers
in the Essex EPZ (Amesbury,
west Newbury, Newbury, Salisbury and Merrimack)
as will as MEMA Framingham ('Bunker"), Region1 and State Police.
Newburyport
Emergency Management can provide temporary
emergency
field communications. When this happens a Mobile
Command
Post is required. The directors vehicle (C-1) is
equipped with UHF, VHF and 800Mhz radios to maintain
communication traffic between NEMA and Region 1 to our
local Police, Fire and DPW departments.

We have the ability to program
UHF, VHF and 800Mhz radio's on the fly in the event of a
mutual aid relocation in an effort to communicate with
authorities state wide.
Newburyport's
Commercial radio of choice is Kenwood
models, however we do have a mix of Motorola, GE and
Uniden in our fleet.
